Laura Kelly

Laura Kelly is the Director of Quality Services for the Texas Charter Schools Association. Previously in the private sector, she specializes in organizational effectiveness, school quality, strategic planning, and change management. Ms. Kelly helps charter school leadership teams and boards improve academic outcomes and operational performance and oversees new school development efforts.  Prior to joining the association, Laura worked at The University of Texas at Austin, Institute for Public School Initiatives and led the development of the Texas Charter Schools Quality Framework and school self-evaluation tool.  Laura also spearheaded The Institute’s educational productivity, which focus on innovative ways to run effective schools and increase student achievement.


Ingrid Taylor
Board Vice Chair

Ingrid Taylor is a results-driven professional with over 15 years experience in delivering, evaluating and creating educational programs, support strategic planning practices and offering leadership and governance training to community and school leaders. She’s worked with school board-superintendent teams across Texas to improve good governance practices, and facilitated strategic planning meetings and retreats for a variety of non-profit organizations. Taylor has worked at the federal, state and local level on budget, policy and programs and has served on a number of community boards in Austin. She currently manages work with four school districts as part of the Texas GEAR UP State Grant. Ingrid holds a masters of public affairs degree from the University of Texas at Austin.

Lori Holleran Steiker, Ph.D., ACSW

University of Texas at Austin Distinguished Professor

Dr. Holleran Steiker, an addictions therapist turned educator/scholar, conducts research which contributes to the knowledge base regarding adolescent substance abuse prevention, intervention, and recovery. A person in long term recovery (since 1987), she graduated from Duke, University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work, and Arizona State University’s doctoral program in Social Work.

She has published extensively on effective cultural adaptations of evidence-based substance abuse prevention and intervention programs for high school aged youth. An Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin School of Social Work, she received the UT System Regents’ Award, the President’s Associates Award, the Texas Exes Teaching Award, membership in the Academy of Distinguished Teachers, and the UT Big XII Fellowship. Her second book Youth Substance Abuse: Prevention and Intervention will be available in 2014.


Robert Kaminski, JD

Robert serves as a partner in the Savrick, Schumann, Johnson, McGarr, Kaminski, & Shirley, L.L.P. Law Firm. His expertise is in Appellate, Business/Commercial Litigation, Construction Law and Litigation, Consumer Law and Litigation, General Litigation, and Insurance Coverage and Litigation.

Bill Lee is a real estate developer and consultant, He has worked extensively with non-profits and local and state government developing affordable housing across Texas. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity University and a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. He has published articles in Urban Land, the magazine of the Urban Land Institute and has spoken at ULI programs across the country. He and his wife Sally are long-term residents of Au.stin. Their daughters are both graduates of Westlake High School.

Adriel J Meditz
Board Member

Adriel graduated from Baylor University with a business degree, serves as a Private Client Banker with JPMorgan Chase & Co., and stays very active in the Austin/Global innovation space through his independent consulting firm 1845 Ventures. Other boards and associations in town that he serves with currently are: Austin Symphony Board of Directors, Austin Opera Board of Trustees, Young Men’s Business League (YMBL) Board of Directors, Austin Sunshine Camps Board of Directors, Leadership Austin (Emerge Graduate 2013), Texas Parks & Wildlife Foundation Steward, and finally as a US Partner for both the Ireland/Texas Business Association and London Tech Advocates.

Nola H. Wellman, Ph.D.
Board Member

Prior to joining Eanes ISD, Dr. Wellman enjoyed 16 years in the acclaimed Cherry Creek School District in Denver, including five years as the Assistant Superintendent for Performance Improvement and five as Executive Director of Middle Schools. Previously she was a middle school principal in Cherry Creek ISD as well as in Estes Park, Colorado. Dr. Wellman began her career as a middle school English teacher. As Superintendent of the Eanes Independent School District, Dr. Nola Wellman has made an enormous impact, providing leadership to a district known for exceptional student achievement and continual improvement on various assessments.

E. Shane Widner
Board Member

Shane Widner is a local entrepreneur and member of Austin’s recovery community who has provided time, funding and resources through his local companies over the past 20+ years to numerous charitable organizations and causes benefiting the Austin community, including the Capital Area Food Bank, Austin Pets Alive!, SIMS Foundation, HAAM, Black Fret, SXSW Cares, and Full Circle Services, to name but a few.   Mr. Widner currently serves as President of South Austin Ventures, LLC, which owns and operates the award-winning Strange Brew Austin Coffee & LoungeSide.  Mr. Widner is a South Austin resident and proud father of his 15-year old daughter who is currently a sophomore at James Bowie High School.


Mark Williams
Board Member

Mark Williams started as Board President of the Austin ISD Board of Trustees in 2006 and was reelected in May 2008. Father and philanthropist, Williams is currently a member of the board of directors and has served in various officer and/or committee positions for: the Center for Child Protection, the Ex-Students Association of the University of Texas (Texas Exes), Any Baby Can and the University of Texas Rec Sports Leadership Team. He is the AISD representative and on the Board of Envision Central Texas (ECT) and serves as an AISD representative to the Community Action Network’s (CAN) Resource Council. Williams is a proud graduate of The University of Texas at Austin. He is also active with the Aware, Awake, Alive! Program which addresses underage drinking and drug abuse.

Anne McAllister, LCSW, RN

In recovery since her youth (1974), Anne has worked in the recovery/addiction field for 30 years in a variety of capacities ranging from Recovery Coach to Detox Nursing. She is presently the Director of ICDS (Institute of Chemical Dependency Studies), a NAADAC approved education provider for Substance Abuse Counselor Education, setting the standard of excellence in initial, ongoing, and advanced clinical and professional training and development in the field of addiction counseling.


Hamilton Beazley, Ph.D

Hamilton Beazley, Ph.D. has been Scholar-in-Residence at St. Edward’s University, Austin, Texas and former Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at The George Washington University, Washington, DC. He received his B.A. degree in psychology from Yale University, his MBA from Southern Methodist University, and his Ph.D. in organizational behavior from The George Washington University. He is former President of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Inc., New York City and a former member of the Executive Committee of the Division on Addictions of the Harvard Medical School. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Austin Recovery and the Board of Trustees of the Educational Advancement Foundation. Dr. Beazley has appeared on “Oprah Winfrey,” NBC, CNN, CNBC, Fox, and a host of radio programs from coast to coast. He has testified before committees of both the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate as an expert witness on alcoholism.
